The reason is that the love you have for yourself has absolutely nothing to do with form. It has to do with you respecting yourself and the one body you will have for your entire life.

It’s true that you can love your body no matter what and understand that you don’t want to make changes because there’s something wrong but instead because you can be better to yourself. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with recognizing that there is too much fat on your body. The reason is that if you’re not satisfied with the way you look or with the health risks you may be facing, then acknowledging that there is an issue is the first step to correcting it.

That said, it’s easy to lose sight of the fact that you need to love your body no matter what. After all, when you aren’t fitting into your clothes like you used to or when you don’t look anything like your favorite celebrities, it can be easy to look at the changes in your body as flaws that you dislike.

Still, it’s all well and good to say that you should avoid hating yourself just because you don’t like your jeans size at the moment. Use the following strategies to keep you on track:

Stay honest – Don’t lie to yourself. You aren’t fat. You have fat on your body. Some of that fat is good, some of it may be not-so-good. Speak with a doctor to understand where you are in that range. Using beauty magazines or even other people as your weight gauge isn’t a good idea. There’s more to it than a number on a scale. Respect yourself by understanding that your shape is unique which means that your healthy body weight will be your own and won’t necessarily reflect that of other friends, family members or actors.

Know what you really want – When you love yourself, your goal is to look your best by being your healthiest. Shaming yourself or trying to be as skinny as possible is no way to be respectful of yourself. Your shape is yours and yours alone so you should get to understand it and love it. Love it because it’s yours and change it because you want it to be healthier and more fit, not because you hate it or want to be more like someone else.

Understand your lifestyle – Is your body shape it is because of positive changes you’ve made in your life or because of habits you’re maintaining despite the harm they’re causing? Track your fitness and nutrition routine and then make appropriate changes to overcome your weaknesses by playing up your strengths.
