lose holiday weight before New Years

Consuming a scrumptious holiday feast at Thanksgiving comes at a price. And New Year’s is right around the corner, so the extra pounds you have gained have to go fast! But don’t worry, the holidays are for indulging in your favorite foods and you have plenty of time to get back on track. Here are a few tips to help you lose holiday weight:

Stop Feeling Guilty
Holidays are for spending time with your friends and family, and taking a break from your hectic life. So, don’t beat yourself up for indulging in your mom’s delicious home cooked foods. You deserve it!

Don’t Skip Meals
Just because you have put on a little holiday weight, doesn’t mean you start skipping meals altogether. Food is your body’s fuel and not eating properly will only make you lethargic. Instead, eat healthy foods that help you lose holiday weight, such as foods which contain fiber and protein that keep your stomach full for longer.

Start Exercising
This chilly and festive season may have put a halt on your workout routine, but it’s time to get back on track. Exercising will not only aid in weight loss but will also help you get energized.

Record Your Goals and Your Achievements
Recording your goals makes it more real and verifiable. Quantify everything! For example, “I want to lose ten pounds by January 1st.” Also record your achievements so you know how far you have come, for instance, “Lost 3 pounds in November.” Recording your calorie intake and expenditure will also be helpful, though it can be tedious. Writing down your goals will make you feel more committed and writing down your achievements will make you feel more motivated.

Eat Vegetables
Fresh vegetables, whether raw, steamed or roasted, contain large quantities nutrients and are low in calories. They are also great appetite suppressants, so include lots of vegetables in your meals.

Remove All Holiday Leftovers
You have indulged in the delicious goodness of holiday foods and now it’s time to leave it all behind. If you want to effectively lose holiday weight (or rather stop yourself from gaining), get rid of all the temptations.

Plan Your Meals
Don’t make excuses for yourself when you are eating something unhealthy. For example, don’t eat takeout food because you don’t have time to make a meal or a bag of cookies because you didn’t go grocery shopping for healthy snacks. Plan your meals in advance. If you are on the go, make sure you pack a lunch that is healthy and if you are prone to snacking, visit the grocery store and buy some healthy snacks.
